Challenging heights at 1 princes street
Perched precariously above the Waitematā Harbour, two properties at 1 Princes Street faced an unprecedented challenge after Cyclone Gabriel. Yakka stepped in to deliver a precise and safe removal operation, safeguarding both land and sea.

Precision removal, perilous perch
Engaged directly by Waka Kotahi, Yakka undertook the critical task of removing two properties severely undercut by Cyclone Gabriel. These houses were left cantilevering off a 50-metre drop, situated directly beneath the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge on the North Shore. Our team also expertly cleared dead pohutukawa trees that had fallen onto the foreshore due to the cliff collapse.

Navigating instability and inaccessibility
This project presented unique complexities. The cliff face itself was inherently unstable, demanding meticulous planning to ensure no excess loadings from machinery jeopardised the remaining structure. Furthermore, the foreshore was completely inaccessible by land, requiring innovative water-based solutions. Our team managed the removal of trees by carefully cutting them into manageable sizes, then utilising a ground-stabilised winch system to pull them safely back up the cliff face for disposal.

Safeguarding auckland's harbour
Yakka's diligent work at 1 Princes Street delivered significant positive impact. By safely removing these precariously situated properties, we eliminated the substantial risk of them falling into the Waitematā Harbour. This crucial intervention prevented them from becoming dangerous obstacles to watercraft, ensuring the continued safety and navigability of one of Auckland's most vital waterways. This project perfectly showcases Yakka's expertise in providing innovative solutions for even the trickiest and most critical projects.
