Curran street: a harbour-side transformation
Discover how Yakka navigated unique environmental challenges to deliver a crucial infrastructure upgrade directly alongside Auckland Harbour.

Navigating the harbour's edge
The Curran Street project presented a unique set of challenges, working directly alongside the Auckland Harbour, underneath the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge. Our scope involved the removal of an existing bridge spanning over a soft, environmentally sensitive area. This required meticulous planning and execution to ensure minimal impact on the surrounding marine ecosystem. Following demolition, we proceeded with backfilling the area with a lime-stabilised hardstand, preparing the ground for significant infrastructure improvements. The final stages included the careful preparation and installation of a new road and footpath, transforming this critical urban link.

Precision in sensitive environments
Yakka’s commitment to excellence shone through in the Curran Street project. Given the highly sensitive marine environment, we implemented stringent systems to guarantee no contamination entered the waterways. A significant challenge was achieving the required compaction specifications in an area influenced by tidal movements. This necessitated working during limited hours that aligned with the tides, carefully scheduling our operations to allow adequate curing time for materials before the next incoming tide. Our innovative approach and dedication ensured not only the successful completion of the project but also the protection of Auckland’s precious marine environment, delivering a high-quality outcome for our client.
