Building the foundations of luxury: Park Hyatt Wynyard Wharf
Discover how Yakka navigated complex challenges to deliver the critical groundwork for the iconic Park Hyatt Wynyard Wharf. A testament to our expertise and commitment to excellence.

Navigating complexity, building success
The Park Hyatt Wynyard Wharf project presented a unique challenge: excavating 60,000 m³ for the hotel's basement, followed by detailed excavation and compacted backfill for the concrete slab. Our team at Yakka embraced this task, laying the groundwork for a landmark development in Auckland.

Expert handling of contaminated materials
During excavation, the material was identified as a mudcrete mixture containing asbestos fibres. Yakka swiftly developed and implemented stringent protocols and procedures to safely remove this contaminated material, ensuring full compliance with current health and safety regulations. Our expertise in hazardous material management was crucial to the project's integrity.

Delivering on time, every time
Despite the additional requirements posed by the contaminated material, all works were completed within the tight programme. We are incredibly proud of our team's ability to maintain efficiency and meet deadlines under challenging circumstances. This project was successfully managed by our civils manager, Bruno Busnardo, whose leadership ensured a seamless execution.
